Designing the Modern Primary Bathroom: Functionality, Luxury, and Lasting Impressions

We were thrilled to be part of ProBuilder Magazine's latest House Review, which spotlighted trends and fresh thinking in primary bathroom design — a space that’s taken on a whole new level of importance in the home.

What used to be a purely functional room is now a personal retreat — a place to reset, recharge, and get ready for the day ahead (or wind down at the end of one). The bathrooms we design today are equal parts beautiful and practical, blending comfort, smart storage, and everyday indulgence.

In our featured project, we look at upgrading that classic five-piece bath and elevate it to a sanctuary.

• (A) Separate vanities to give each person their own space

• (B) A more thoughtful layout that connects directly to the walk-in closet and laundry area

• (C) Built-in linen storage that doesn’t feel like an afterthought

• (D) A dedicated makeup vanity with an appliance garage to keep things neat and functional

• (E) Sconce lighting at the mirrors for a softer, more flattering glow

• (F) A spacious dual-head shower in place of the traditional tub — one of the biggest shifts we’re seeing from clients who want something more versatile and relaxing

These kinds of details may seem small, but they make a big impact. They support daily routines while creating a sense of calm — and that balance is at the heart of good design.
