Darrin Harris Frisby
The remodeled home for this Colorado artist had an enormous task…to become a work of art in itself. Every room, space, transition, nook and cranny had to function, showcase the artist’s treasures, and inspire creativity.
The original cottage had tiny rooms and chopped up spaces. The remodeled cottage has open spaces, perfect for entertaining, vaulted beamed ceilings, a show stopping Owner’s Suite, and shady outdoor spaces.
Great Room: The ceiling was opened and new beams were added. The original moss rock fireplace was updated. Wood floors were added throughout, and new built- in shelves were added to feature special pieces.
Kitchen/Dining: The door to the outside was replaced by windows, and the light and bright new white on white kitchen was opened to the Great Room and Dining Area. The Dining Area was originally a tiny bedroom, and now works perfectly for entertaining. The Dining Area is adjacent to a new covered outdoor living area. Two covered breezeways were added for easy transition between the remodeled home and the artist’s studio/guest bedroom and carport.
Owner’s Suite: Only 237 s.f. of finished space was added to the home, and this was to create a wonderful Owner’s suite. You approach the suite through saloon doors. The suite has vaulted ceilings, a beautiful bath with black and white porcelain patterned tiles, a copper soaking tub, walk-in shower, and vintage style vanities.
Exterior: The charm of the original cottage was maintained with the addition. The mix of board and batt siding, stucco and stone is maintained, and all the windows are replaced with energy efficient dark multi-paned units.
Treasures: The home is filled with the Artist’s finds! The latest find arrived during construction. In the crawlspace, we found antique shoes and newspapers from the twenties, now proudly on display in a rustic shelf in the great room!
